Independence Home Learning:

As it is getting to the closer to the children starting their next chapter in big school, there will be a real emphasis in our class on increasing independence. There are many ways in which you can support your children for this transition at home:

  • Encourage your child to use a knife and fork/ scrape and clean their plate and cup.
  • Encourage your child to put on their own shoes and socks.
  • Encourage your child to pull up their own trousers.
  • If your child is still in nappies, start to think about toilet training (if this is appropriate).
  • Encourage your child to put on their own coat.
  • Encourage your child to help you tidy up.

Maths Home Learning:

  • Can your child identify numbers in the environment?
  • Can your child start to copy/write any numbers they see?
  • Can your child find shapes in the environment?
  • Number blocks on BBC IPlayer is also a great resource.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World Home Learning:

  • Can you talk about what the weather is like each day?
  • Can the children retell you the life cycle animals?
  • How many animals can you find around your local area? Can you see any baby animals?

Can you do any planting together? Do you think it will grow small or tall? How long do you think it will take to grow?

Can you build your own castle together big enough for a giant! You could use blocks, junk modelling, lego or playdoh.

Could you visit the library and find any other Jack and the Beanstalk books/alternative texts to read e.g. Jasper’s Beanstalk.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Home Learning
