Lavender Class

"This is an outstanding school." (Ofsted)

Lavender Class

Lavender class offers places for 3 and 4 year old children who receive 30 hours funding. We have children who are with us five days a week and other children who use their hours more flexibly perhaps over 3 longer days by accessing our breakfast and after school club.

We offer fun and educational activities through continuous provision, and children are encouraged to be as independent as possible in accessing these activities. Adults in the room support and encourage the children in their work and play; recognising times to extend and challenge them and turn these experiences into learning opportunities. We also plan adult led learning which is delivered in small sessions throughout the day. Sometimes there is a particular focus on early phonics skills and maths alongside our ongoing work on speech and language development and personal and social skills.

At lunch time our children are supported by familiar adults and encouraged to eat a healthy packed lunch or a hot meal provided by school for a small charge. These meals are varied and provide a balanced nutritional meal, including favourites such as a roast dinner, chicken curry and fish and chips. We also cater for children who may have specific dietary requirements, please speak to us directly if this applies to you.

Our classroom is a large but inviting space, laid out to offer children lots of choice and space for big projects as well as some cosy working areas. We have our own bathroom that offers privacy and encourages the children to be independent in toileting and hand washing. Changing facilities are also available if your child is not yet ready to be toilet trained and we can also offer support with this.We are very lucky to have a beautiful outdoor learning environment and the children enjoy access to this throughout the day. Favourite areas include our climbing frame and slide, our enormous outdoor sandpit and our children love to explore the woodland area.

Our staff team are all highly experienced practitioners, led by a teacher who plans activities to ensure children make progress and are supported in all areas or learning. Children have identified Key Workers which helps them feel settled and secure in class. This also helps the adults to understand each child's individual needs. We sit in our Key Worker groups for our morning and afternoon snack times and see these as an opportunity for promoting good communication and social skills.

Throughout the day there are times when the children have free choice activities that they can access as they choose, adult led carpet sessions and small group or 1:1 activities where appropriate. There is always a busy and happy buzz in Lavender Class and we have lots of fun learning together.
